Baris Dance

The Baris dance is a traditional war dance usually performed by men. The dance glorifies the manhood of the triumphant Balinese warrior. It is a religious ritual dedication to warriors and their weapons during a temple feast.

To become a good Baris dancer, one must undergo hard training to obtain the skill and flexibility that typifies the elegance of the dance. The Baris is accompanied by the gamelan orchestra.

The music is closely related to the performance and entirely attuned to the changing the moods of the warrior's will. The Baris dancers wear elaborate head decoration, from a gold-colored head band to leaves and strings of cempaka blossoms.

If you interested to see this dance performed live, there are regular performances in Ubud.
